Bury FC can confirm that James Neild has extended his contract until the end of the 2027/28 season.
Neild joined the Shakers in October 2025 following his departure from Warrington Rylands, where he had spent three seasons and captained the club during the 2023/24 campaign.
The defender played a key role in our title-winning 2025/26 season, making 30 appearances across all competitions, including 28 starts, and playing 2,558 minutes.
He has continued to be a regular this season, starting 12 matches so far. Neild has also scored once and registered an assist, with his goal coming in the 3-2 victory over Curzon Ashton.
Since joining the club, Neild has established himself as an important figure both on and off the pitch.

Manager Anthony Johnson was delighted to secure Neild’s future with the club.
“I’m absolutely delighted to get Nieldy tied down for the next couple of years, Jonno said.
“He’s been absolutely phenomenal since I’ve been at the club and has been first-class as the club captain this season.
“We all love working with him and he plays football the way I manage my teams.”
For Neildy, the decision to extend his stay was an easy one after experiencing life at Bury since his arrival last year.
“Since I’ve joined, it’s been absolutely amazing. I can’t put into words, I knew what I was joining but I never knew what it would feel like playing here in front of the fans. It’s been absolutely amazing since I’ve been here!
“I absolutely love the club. I love the coaching staff, the lads and the fan base. It’s the best club in non-league and I want to be here as long as possible.”
Neild has previously played for Warrington Rylands, Curzon Ashton, Hyde United, New Mills and Trafford, and will now remain at Gigg Lane through to the end of the 2027/28 season.
